By now, you’ve heard that the ADA website accessibility rule for public accommodations (including all credit unions) is on the way. Although the rule has been delayed several times, there are indications that the courts expect business sites to be accessible to assistive technology users now, in advance of the rule change. There are several recent high-profile lawsuits testing that compliance.
While the legal aspect is important, it’s not the main reason to care about the accessibility of your credit union’s website. Making your site conform to accessibility standards means that the widest range of people— your members, prospective members, and guests— will be able to successfully read, interact, and have a good experience with your credit union’s site. That’s why we think credit union website accessibility is so important.
